Sustainability and Environmental Health Tip

Did you know that food waste is the number one material in America’s landfills?  As food waste breaks down, it emits potent greenhouse gasses which have serious negative consequences on the atmosphere.  In 2020, Summit County residents and visitors diverted nearly 233,000 pounds of food waste from the landfill!  You can help BGV and Summit County reach our Waste Diversion Goals by collecting food scraps at home and recycling them properly.

Visit the High Country Conservation Center’s website to see what’s accepted in the compost, register for their free composting program and receive a code to access the drop-off food scrap bins at the Frisco, Breckenridge and Silverthorne Recycling Centers. This code is required to open the bear-proof bins and will change periodically to reduce contamination. You will be notified via email regarding code and program updates.

If you are staying at a Breckenridge Grand Vacations property, you can request a compost bucket from the front desk of your resort and help us reduce waste and improve our environment.  When full, you can either take it to a Front Desk staff or leave it in your room and the housekeeping staff will take care of it for you.

Remember – ONLY food scraps should be placed in the compost bucket. Please refer to the information below for acceptable food composting materials.
