Annual Walk Raises Over $170k to Support Heart Health Programs

Over 700 participants walked, ran and enjoyed live entertainment and healthy food during The 4th Annual Rob Millisor Heart Health Walk (RAM Walk) on June 8 at Carter Park in Breckenridge. The event is organized by Breckenridge Grand Vacations’ (BGV) philanthropic program, BGV Gives, in honor of late BGV owner/developer Rob Millisor, who passed away from a heart attack in 2015 while on a humanitarian trip in Nepal. This year’s RAM Walk has raised more than $170,000, of which $149,833 was cash and in-kind support from a record number of 47 local and national sponsors. One-hundred percent of every dollar is being contributed to The Rob Millisor Heart Health Fund at The Summit Foundation, a BGV community partner.

Since its first edition in 2016, the RAM Walk has raised more than $706,000 to benefit local heart health programs. Grants from the Heart Health Fund have supported free monthly heart health screening events by St. Anthony Summit Medical Center; heart-healthy cooking classes at Colorado Mountain College; and Infant CPR Anytime kits for new local parents. Additional programs include Keystone Science School CATCH Afterschool Program, which promotes healthy physical activity and eating behaviors in children; AED units for the Summit Community Care Dental Clinic and for BGV’s resort properties; and a community-wide CPR/DEFIB education program.

In addition to the financial support, the event counted on the valuable help of community members who volunteered their time and sweat for a great cause. This year, a total of 104 volunteers helped with the organization of the RAM Walk. Among them, many have been offering their service to the local event since its first year.

Events like this one are the reason why this community is so great, says local resident George Connolly. People from every walk of life come together for a cause and give tirelessly to help other people they might have never met before. At the end of the day, all proceeds from the Walk stay right here in Summit County to help fellow locals, like myself.

The 4th Annual Rob Millisor Heart Health Walk featured live entertainment, kids activities, local vendors sharing heart health information and a heart-healthy lunch provided by the Breckenridge Restaurant Association and Food Hedz Catering.
